Obair Bhaile
Táimid ag tabhairt faoin ár dtaighde bliaintúil
ar an méid ama a chaitheann bhur bpáistí ar obair
bhaile where we would ask you to write down the length of time your
child is spending each evening beside where you sign your childs dialann.
Tá cúpla pointe maidir leis an obair bhaile gur mhaith
liom a chur in iúl daoibh arís.
The following are a number of reminders with regard
to Obair Bhaile from Rang 1-6
i) I Rang a 2 children should be learning to do their Obair Bhaile independently;
taking out their books, doing their obair bhaile including táblaí,
spellings (following the look, spell, cover, write, check method).
From Rang 3 up the children should be able to work independently and
in an organised way, as the year progresses:
ii) Your help is required for the final part of your child’s Obair
Bhaile. This should consist of checking written work and ensuring it
is up to a good standard, a check on táblaí as Gaeilge,
a quick written test of spellings, listening to your child reading aloud
(in all classes) and asking questions based on the text. This test for
comprehension is very important from the junior classes up to Rang a
6.
iii) Please tick each element of your child’s homework WHEN YOU
HAVE CHECKED IT and sign an Leabhar Notaí Obair Bhaile. Please
drop a quick note if your child has any problem.
Spleodar
Tá Coiste Spleodair ag obair go dian arís chun féile
taitneamhach a chur ar siúl arís i mbliana. This
year’s festival will run again during the mid-term break and will
involve a great mix of events. Any undertaking such as this involves
a huge amount of voluntary effort so we urge you to support and enjoy
the week and keep the ‘Spleodar’ spirit alive!
Lípeidí
Ba mhaith linn a chur in iúl daoibh arís go bhfuil géarghá
le hainm bhur bpáiste a bheith ar gach rud. “My
Nametags” is the name of a company which makes identity labels
for clothes, lunchboxes etc. If you are interested in ordering some
please ask Kim san oifig. We would please ask you to label everything
– it’s the only way to identify items. If you can put some
identifiable mark on the outside of your childs red jacket please also
do so to faciliatate your child recognising it at speed sa seomra ranga.
Rugbaí
Tá athas orainn fáilte ar ais a chur roimh Noel O’Meara
i mbliana chun “Tag Rugbaí” a dhéanamh leis
na páistí sa scoil. We are delighted
to participate in this sports initiative which is funded by our local
club, Nenagh Ormond, in conjunction with the I.R.F.U. Munster Branch.
Is iontach an deis do na buachaillí agus cailíní
é agus baineann said an-taitneamh as. If children would like
to follow the sport up at club level, tá fáilte rompu!
Tinreamh
Ar an iomlán, tá tinreamh na bpáistí an-mhaith
sa scoil seo. Could I remind you, that in order
for a child to be considered “ar scoil” he/she must be in
until at least 10.30a.m. However, if a child is due to arrive after
that time, he/she can be marked “ar scoil” if the Múinteoir
Ranga has prior knowledge.
Seachtain Chairdis – Friendship
Week
“Níor bhris focal maith fiacail riamh!”
Is cúram comhpháirteach é O.S.P.S. Tosaíonn
O.S.P.S sula dtagann do pháiste ar scoil. Dá bharr san
táimid ag cur in iúl doaibh mar gheall ar ár seachtain
Chairdis – a Friendship Week at school.
In conjunction with the objectives and principles of the O.S.P.S. and
“Beo go Deo” programmes, we are putting extra emphasis on
social development and elements of friendship strengthening, an tseachtain
seo chugainn. As you can appreciate this will not have a huge impact
on obair bhaile or academic learning but it would give us tremendous
support if you could show interest, ask about, suggest ways, talk to
and maybe tease out issues at home. We will be using circle work, visitations,
role-play, relaxation, brain storms, poetry exploration, listening mime,
story-telling, art and lots more to highlight aspects of relationships
education.
This is an ideal opportunity to look at ‘greeting’ as Gaeilge
agus as Béarla; our opening to any meeting or teacht le chéile
can often make or break. The venture. It is also a chance to examine
gratitude and that old fashioned “Go raibh maith agat” Doesn’t
it brighten everyone’s day to encounter good manners and to be
treated respectfully. A word our páistí are very familiar
with is ‘meas’ (respect) and it will be explored again throughout
the weeks activities. Looking at response kind requests, gentle movements
– respectful behavior all round will be our mission. We’re
hoping to take the Grrr…. out of anger and put a cross on the
t of respect!
Le meas mór……… Una
Rúnaí Nua!
Ba mhaith liom fáilte is fiche a chur roimh Kim Ní Chathail
mar Rúnaí nua againn sa ghaelscoil agus buíochas
a thabhairt ag an am céanna d’ Eithne dá bhianta
oibre den scoth déantá linn san oifig. Tá Eithne
linna fós mar chúntoir Sealadach agus guím gach
rath uirthí amach anseo.
Breithlá bhur bPáiste
Más rud é go bhfuil bhur bpáiste chun bhreithlá
a bheith aige nó aici ba bhreá linn iarraidh oraibh aon
chuireadh gur féidir leat a thabhairt go díreach do na
tuismitheoirí, chun na páistí nach bhfuil ag dul,
a chosaint. If your child is having a birthday
party we would ask you where possible to distribute the invitations
outside the school gates from now on as we find that although it is
preferable that the muínteorí distribute them discreetly
rather than the child, the children are still aware of what is going
on and we are conscious of the feelings of those who are not invited.
Parcáil
An féidir liom iarraidh oraibh a bheith an-chúramach mar
gheall ar pharcáil. A reminder of a few
ground rules that we would like you to ensure are known by anyone dropping
or collecting your children to or from school. They are in the interest
of safety and smooth traffic flow and I appreciate are already being
observed by most of you.
1) Please do not park in the bus set-down space in front of the school
gates.
2) Please never use staff carpark gates for parking, set-down or turning
3) Please do not park, or set down across the road.
4) If using the Revenue gates please do not park or set down there.
Instead drive in and park in a space, so as to avoid congestion with
staff accessing car park.
5) Please ask you child to wait inside school gate to be collected to
ensure their safety. Children waiting on the pathway, not to mention
climbing on the Revenue railings are a distraction and danger to drivers
and local residents.
6) Please always drive very slowly in the vicinity of the school and
ensure your children walk to and from the car.
7) If you can park any distance away from the school and walk your child
this is greatly appreciated all as any reduction in traffic at the peak
times is invaluable.
Grianghrafainna
Beidh Jim Whelehan ag teacht chun na scoile Déardaoin, an 16ú
chun grianghrafainna a thógairt. Jim will
be taking individual and class photos of all the children i Naímáin
Bheaga agus Naíanáin Mhóra, and will be sending
home a photo pack to you on a sale or return basis. If you have a child
in another class and would like his/her photo taken or if you would
like brothers/sisters etc to be taken, please send a nóta to
Kim san oifíg specifying exactly who you would like photographed.
Rainbows 07/08 sa Ghaelscoil
Last call for Rainbows groups! Everyone looking
forward to getting started on this years programme. Fáilte
roimh éinne a cheapainn go mbeidh an saghas cabhair seo go maith
dóibh. Cuir glaoch ar an scoil agus lorg coinne le Múinteoir
Úna.
Seachtain Athchúrsála
“Bí glan ‘s bí glas”
Recycling week is running from the 1st to 7th
October and we’er encouraging everyone to actively participate
in this national campaign. Here are some simple suggestions:
1) Tógaigí amach na dlúthdhioscanna ‘Sult
‘s Spraoi’ chun éisteacht leis na hamhráin
athchúrsála a chum bhur bpáistí!
2) Ensure that your child has as little packaging as possible in their
school lunch box.
3) Continue to use plastic bottles for school beverages,
4) Don’t forget to get composting! We use the green cone and find
it successful. For more information ask Múinteoir Norm. Beidh
sí lán sásta do cheisteanna a fhreagairt.
5) With Hallowe’en coming you and your child can make costumes
from old clothes cereal boxes etc. Go n-éirí libh!
Norma
Béarla le Lúsai
How can I, as a parent, help to develop my child’s oral language
& his/her listening skills??
TALK talk talk to your child, in the car, at the supermarket at meal
times etc.
1) By developing a good listener/speaker relationship with the child.
Answering the curiosity questions – why is that there?, Where
is it now?, why can’t I go? Who is that? Which one do you like?
Etc.
2) By reading to the child – their favourite stories’ (over
and over and over again), and introducing them to new ones. Engaging
in “book talk” ie discussing the story, title, pictures,
author etc.
3) After reading the story question your child on:
? The characters in the story
? The illustrations in the story
? The best/funniest/silliest/interesting…part
? Allow them to put themselves in the characters’ shoes and discuss
what they would do.
? Ask them about rhyming words, new words and explain any new vocabulary
? Finally ask them to tell the story in their own words and recall the
title
4) By discussing pictures, posters, photos etc and encouraging them
to make up stories about them
5) By encouraging them to use the telephone: how to answer, pass on
messages and explain why parent cant come to the phone.
6) By role playing certain situations “you are in a restaurant
and I am the waiter/waitress” ask for a menu, order, pay, comment
on quality of food. Then reverse roles.
7) By playing simple games e.g. I spy, “I went to the supermarket
and I bought a bear, a ball, a banana and a boat…”
8) By including mathematical language in conversation when shopping
or driving/walking e.g the tallest shelf, the aisle in the middle, the
second turn on the left, the distance to be driven in km, estimating
time of journey etc.
The older child
Encourage them to debate or justify certain topics e.g. advantages &
disadvantages of recycling
Listen to the news on radio and asking them to retell main events, something
that happened outside Ireland or recall weather forecast
Finally when your child is speaking/listening encourage them to remember:
? Chin-up
? Look me in the eye when speaking
? Speak out loud & Clear using full sentences that makes sense
Go raibh maith agaibh do bhur n-aird
Is Mise, Le meas
