Cruinniú Naíonáin Bheaga:
Our annual meeting for parents of children i Naíonáin
Bheaga will take place on Thursday, 13th from 8.00-9.00pm. This meeting
will take you, the parents of all our lovely new pupils, through many
of the features of the Curriculum for Naíonáin, our recommended
dos and don’ts, and answer questions you may have. We look forward
to seeing you all on the night!
Suíomh Gréasáin na Scoile:
www.gaelscoilau.ie
Molaimid go rachfaidh sibh ar an suíomh go luath to see many
updates of the school’s start to the year – mar shampla:
na Naíonáin nua, the 9 o’clock John Murray programme
featuring Gaelscoil A.U., The Haka le Rang a 4 srl!
Comhghairdeachas:
Bhí 2 chluiche iontach peile again Dé Máirt seo
caite in aghaidh Teampall Doire – Ard-mholadh do na páistí
ar fad a ghlac páirt! Last week’s success in the Primary
School’s Football Championship against Templederry means that
we are on to the next round next week! Go n-éirí leis!
Obair Bhaile
Táimid ag tabhairt faoin ár dtaighde bliaintúil
ar an méid ama a chaitheann bhur bpáistí ar obair
bhaile where we would ask you to write down the length of time your
child is spending each evening for the coming month beside where you
sign your child’s dialann.
Tá cúpla pointe maidir leis an obair bhaile gur mhaith
liom a chur in iúl daoibh arís. The following are a number
of reminders with regard to Obair Bhaile from Rang 1-6
i) I Rang a 2 children should be learning to do their Obair Bhaile independently;
taking out their books, doing their obair bhaile including táblaí,
spellings (following the look, spell, cover, write, check method). Before
they start, always remind them to write carefully, and to present their
work well.
From Rang 3 up the children should be beginning to work more independently
and in an organised way, as the year progresses. However will still
need you to keep a close eye!
ii) Your help is required for the final part of your child’s Obair
Bhaile. This should consist of checking written work and ensuring it
is up to a good standard, a check on táblaí as Gaeilge,
a quick written test of spellings, listening to your child reading aloud,
and asking questions based on the text. A test for comprehension is
very important from the junior classes up to Rang a 6.
iii) Please tick each element of your child’s homework WHEN YOU
HAVE CHECKED IT and sign an Dialann Obair Bhaile. Please drop a quick
note if your child has any problem.
iv) Children who do not have part of their obair Bhaile done and do
not have a nóta will receive a ¼, ½ or full spóta
dearg.
v) As your support for your children’s obair Bhaile is generally
excellent, gabhaimid buíochas libh agus iarraimid oraibh é
a choimead suas.
Cinn Miólta:
Our school nurse has again commended the effectiveness of your children’s
hair tied back. We urge you to continue this practice also keeping fringes
back with clips, wide hair bands or bandanas. All hair that can be tied
in a pony tail or pig tails should be!
The best way to check for lice or nits (the empty white egg cases left
behind when head lice hatch) is with a special comb. By wet combing
every week, infestation can be spotted early and if you find a live
head louse please inform an Múinteoir ranga straight away with
a note
The Most effective way to get rid of head lice once confirmed is to
use a head lice treatment. There are a range of products available in
pharmacies nationwide. Ask your Pharmacist which is best for your family
and always read the leaflet. Wet combing must be continued every day
and any eggs or nits must be remove using your fingers as they can remain
in the hair even after combing. When your child has had a 10 day period
of no head lice found you have broken the life cycle and you can return
to a weekly check!
Tinreamh
Ar an iomlán, tá tinreamh na bpáistí an-mhaith
sa scoil seo. Could I remind you, that in order for a child to be considered
“ar scoil” he/she must be in until at least, or by, 10.30a.m.
However, if a child is due to arrive after that time, he/she can be
marked “ar scoil” if the Múinteoir Ranga has prior
knowledge. Could I also encourage those of you whose children are not
in the líne @8.50 to please endeavour to improve this!
Rince
Tá rince le Marie tosnaithe arís gach Déardaoin
i rith am scoile. Is is a wonderful opportunity for all the children
in the school to learn Rince Gaelach with their classmates. A valuable
part of our culture, the children have something that will last with
them for their future lives. They will all perform at our annual Taispéantas
Rince on the day of the Easter holidays when you will have the opportunity
to see a ‘blaiseadh’ of what they have learned. The cost
for the year, September – Easter is €25 per child. Thank
you to those of you who have paid already. If not, we would appreciate
your sending this in to your Múinteoir ranga in an envelope as
soon as possible.
Rainbows:
Rainbows is a peer-support group for young people dealing with death,
separation or the painful transition on their family set-up. Rainbows
helps by providing a safe setting in which participants can share their
feelings, emotions, and struggles with those who have similar experience.
They are supported by a trained facilitator. The programme is running
sa Ghaelscoil ar feadh 15 bliain. Though not an absolute, it is recommended
that this programme is undertaken about a year after the change or loss
has occurred.
It is our endeavour to cater for similar situations within our groups
– e.g. Death/Bereavements in a separate group from those dealing
with separation/divorce. Age and relatives are also factors which determine
whether it is possible to set up a group.
Emotional healing, a recognition of pain/grief/loss/change and a stronger
direction towards healthy resolution of the changes that have taken
place are acknowledged to be the benefits of the 12 session programme.
Please make an appointment with me through Elaine san Oifig if you require
tuilleadh eolais; or send in a note to your Múinteoir Ranga.
Múinteoir Úna
Sláinte agus Sábháilteacht-Health
and Safety, and Child Safety
As a health and safety measure, and in the interest of Child Safety,
the Board of Management has been advised to ensure that anyone visiting
the school after 9.00 am signs in with Elaine at the Oifig. This is
an important record of who has been on the premises at any given time.
Out of respect to Elaine, our Rúnaí, it is most important
that you co-operate with her on this issue. If you have any problem
with this, please speak to myself or any member of the Bord Bainistiochta.
Again, in the interest of safety, the front doors are locked at 9.00.
Admittance can be gained by using the doorbell at the main front door.
As Smacht:
Is oth linn a rá, but the number of items being dropped into
Elaine san Oifig to be given to pupils at school has gone out of control!
Please ask your child each evening and morning before going to school
‘Is there anything you need to bring to school?’ and please
keep a close check on the days that sports gear is needed. Míle
buíochas.
Cumann Garraíodóireachta:
The new year’s Saturday Cumann garraiodóieachta commences
ths Saturday, 8th, from 10-12.00. Great work has been done both by teachers
and parents in the past year, and it is envisaged that this year will
be even better. A visit from Irsh Seed Savers is planned for this Saturday,
so a good day should be had!
An Ghaeilge:
Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh:
Táimid lán-sásta go bhfuil dul chun cinn déanta
ar an iarracht chun cead a bheith ag páistí Gaelscoil
Aonach Urmhumhan freastal ar Ghaelcholáiste Luimnigh. After on-going
negotiations, I have secured permission for parents to apply for their
children to attend Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh. However, as this is
a central applications system used in applying for all secondary in
Limerick, entry is not guaranteed. I will be receiving a copy of the
application form over the coming days and as soon as I do so, it will
be available to you to download from our school website, or from Elaine
san Oifig. If you are applying, and if this is the only school you are
interested in for your child in the Limerick area, a note should be
attached to this effect. Gach eolas mar gheall ar an scoil fein ó
061 404959.
Tá athas orainn go bhfuil Ranganna Gaeilge ar siúl i Dún
Mhuire arís, so if you are interested in attending, Irish classes
for adults are held on Tuesdays from 11-12.00 noon. Classes are also
held on Tuesday evenings for fifth and sixth year students preparing
for oral Irish Leaving Cert exams. Gach eolas ó 41570.
Ríocht na n-Óg ag Cúl an Tí: Is iontach
an scéal é go bhfuil 2 Naíonra ar an mbaile anois!
With a new Irish Pre-School now open i Dún Mhuire(beside AIB),
in response to the increasing interest and demand by parents for their
children to learn Irish from as earlier an age as possible, Ta cúrsaí
na Gaeilge ag láidriú ó lá go lá.
With the opportunity for children to be introduced to Gaeilge in an
informal purpose-built setting, as well as the availability of the pre-school
grant to those attending, the future looks bright for Ríocht
na n-Óg ag Cúl an Tí. Comhghairdeachas do gach
duine ag baint leis! Gach eolas ó 41570.
Creativekids.ie:
In response to queries with regard to where chidren’s study furniture
can be bought locally, you may like to try Creative Kids which is located
in Streame at the back of Woodies!
Ag Bailiú:
With your generous contributions of old phones, empty computer ink cartridges,
unwanted clothing, footwear and bed linen, as well as brown coin, we
have been able to buy gardening tools for the children to use! Maith
sibh! We ask you to continue to send in these items!
Gleasadh Suas – Dressing Up: Over the years you have sent in dressing
up costumes and props which have been very welcome! We would be delighted
to receive these for our school concerts and also for class drama and
dress up if your children are finished with them!
Féile Suimiúl, Spreagúil
agus Spraíúil!
We are very lucky to have the Spleodar festival run in our locality
over the Hallowe’en mid-term in conjunction with the Arsts Office,
North Tipperary Co. Council. Check www.spleodar.ie.
The committee involved in this festival works very hard to provide a
wonderful variety of events for all to enjoy. Please support what you
can, and make the festival a success for all.
Go raibh mile maith agaibh do bhur meas a léiriú ag léamh
na nuachtlitreach seo.
