Beannachtaí na hAthbhliana oraibh go léir agus guím gach rath oraibh do 2010! Cé go mothaíonn an Nollaig fada go leor ó shin anois, ta súil agam gur bhain sibh an-taitneamh as!
As you know, our return to school was delayed due to the inclement weather, and burst pipes here at the school. Although unlucky that it happened, the situation could have been so much worse. Having the water turned off coming into the school during the holidays, the heat on holiday mode, pipes insulated and frost-stat heaters in the attic, coupled with coming upon the leak within a few hours of it happening last Wednesday evening, really reduced what may have been a much more serious problem. We are also very heartened by the news that the damage will be covered by our insurance! Mo bhuíochas do Phádraic Ó Curraoin agus Marie Uí Mhurchú ar an mBord Bainistíochta, chomh maith le foireann na scoile a rinne obair iontach chun an scoil a athchóiríú chun oscailt inné, agus leis na tuismitheoirí a d’ofráil cabhair freisin. Aifreann na Nollag
Bhí aifreann álainn againn chun an Nollaig a chéiliúradh sa séipéal roimh Nollaig. Mo mholadh do na páistí a bhí ar fheabhas, agus le foireann na scoile a rinne an-obair leis na páistí, agus daoibhse, a tháinig chun freastal ar an ocáid.

Cuairteanna ar na Tithe Altranais
Chuaigh Rang 2,3,4, agus 5 ar chuairteanna chuig St. Conlan’s and Manor Nursing Homes ag canadh Carúil na Nollag do na daoine ann agus ag caint leo! Maith sibh!

Aonach na Nollag
Comhghairdeachas le Coiste na dTuismitheoirí agus na tuismitheoirí ar fad a chabhraigh leis an Aonach na Nollag a chur ar siúl. It really was a fabulous day for the children! Maith sibh a phaistí a chuir seastáin iontacha ar bun agus a bhailigh airgead iontach do charthanachta éagsúla. Moladh agus buíochas mór daoibh chomh maith, a thuismitheoirí, for the beautiful baking you did for the Aonach – your help and support was such a treat and privilege for the children, and such a good message to them, that you would give this time at such a busy period of the year for all!

Éadaí Scoile SwapShop
Coiste na dTuismitheoirí will be holding another swap shop before mid-term, so please send in any éadaí scoile you are finished with, ensuring they are clean and have name tags removed. Míle buíochas!

In accordance with our Cód Smachta, please send a nóta to school with your child if the incorrect uniform is being worn for any reason.

Poncúlacht
As a new year’s resolution, could those of you whose children don’t arrive at school at 8.50 in time for the line, prayer and hymn, please endeavor to do so. Arriving after this time causes children to lose out on valuable phonics, spellings tables, obair bhaile, news and social elements of the start of the school day. Punctuality is valuable training for life, and although we understand that it is very busy getting out of the house on time in the morning, we ask the relevant families to make a concerted effort.

Laethanta Saoire
You can see the school holiday dates included in this Nuachtlitir. Due to a shorter mid-term in February, we will be closing a little earlier in June. We ask you to work around these holiday dates for your family holidays, as from our experience, a week lost from school for holidays is the equivalent to a fortnight in terms of the real loss with regard to settling back and the distraction beforehand.

Could I bring to your attention that if you phone the school to inform us that your child will be absent, a note is still required on your child’s return to school and is kept as documentary evidence as requested by the National Education Welfare Board.

Cumann Obair Bhaile
Beidh an cumann obair bhaile ag tosnú arís ar an 18ú de mhí Éanair le haghaidh 7 seachtaine.
Homework club will be recommencing on the 18th of January for 7 weeks. It will be on from Monday to Thursday but we advise that your child attends no more then three sessions a week.
The cost for the above period of 6 weeks is €57 for 3 days a week, (€3 per day), €45.50 for 2 days, (€3.50 per day), and €31 for 1 day (€4 per day).
As you know, Obair Bhaile is given to reinforce and extend the child’s learning, as well as giving parents an opportunity to work with their child and an insight into their progress. Therefore, if your child is attending Cumann Obair Bhaile, we recommend that you do check your child’s obair bhaile each evening, and sign the Dialann as usual, and make up the contact time around their learning even if it’s at weekends in terms of following up on themes covered at school, or a trip to the library etc.
