Nuachtlitir 6 Feabhra 2010
A Thuismitheoirí, a Chairde,
Nach aoibheann é an tEarrach a bheith linn, leis na laethanta
ag dul i bhfad, an feabhas ar an aimsir, agus an domhan mórthimpeall
orainn ag athdhúiseacht! Is iad seo a leanas na príomhrudaí
don mhí seo!
Lá ‘le Pádraig
Tá an-áthas orainn a chur in iúl daoibh go mbeidh
Pádráid Lá ‘le Pádraig ar siúl
in Aonach Urmhumhan ar an 17ú Márta. Initiated by Mayor
Hughie McGrath it is fabulous news that Nenagh will host a St. Patrick’s
Day parade this year on the 17th of March. Coiste na dTuismitheoirí
agus an Bord Bainístíochta have accepted the invite to
have the children taking part, and we are looking forward to a great
day. The details will be worked out with the parade committee following
a meeting tonight and we look forward to a great attendance at the parade,
which, will be commencing at 2.30 at Summerhill. The school Banna Ceoil
will be playing and children representing each class from rang 1-6 will
also march.
Hataí
We are hoping to have a high green hat for every child taking part.
If you, or anyone you know are attending the upcoming rugby internationals,
please collect as many of these as possible and send them in to the
school or give them to any member of the Coiste na dTuismitheoirí!
Míle buíochas.

ISPCC & Eco Environmental
Táimid ag bailiú arís! In order to be creative
around how we raise sufficient funds to keep progressing the school
forward, we have signed up to the ISPCC & Eco Environmental scheme
whereby the school gets €2.00 for every mobile phone and €3.00
for every well-filled bin liner of clothes and textiles collected. In
addition 50c is donated to the ISPCC. As with the last Interactive Whiteboard
it was great to receive it in exchange for the phone collection as well
as the Jack & Jill Foundation going too. Therefore, we ask you to
please support this appeal by sending in any old mobile phone you, your
relatives or friends, may have, and we will also forward a textile bag
to you when we receive them. Míle buíochas!!
An Ghaeilge sa Ghaelscoil
As part of our New Year’s resolutions, we are really endeavouring
to raise the children’s standard of spoken Irish in the classroom
and the informal settings of the school. The importance of the value
of a strong school community cannot be over-emphasised and as one of
the fundamental aims of our Gaelscoil is that the children have a great
knowledge, awareness and appreciation of our language and overall culture,
we regularly need to re-assess the children’s efforts in this
area, agus Pobal Scoile Gaelach a chothú.
As you know we frequently reward the children for their Gaeilge with
stickers, stars, prizes, class votes and more! However, when children
speak in English outside of English class, in situations where they
have the competency to speak ‘as Gaeilge’ we issue a Cárta
Bán. This is sent home for your information and signature. Usually
with your support a great improvement in the pupil’s effort follows.
However, occasionally repeated Cártaí Bána are
issued. If your child receives 3 Cárta Bán in a calendar
month, a Cárta Buí is issued and we then telephone you
to help remedy the situation. Happily this hasn’t happened this
year! In general a mark will not be deducted from the pupil’s
leabhair nótaí iompar when sé/sí is issued
a Cárta Bán, but if misbehaviour or a negative attitude
accompanies the speaking in English it will be.
So again we look for your support in the following ways to help and
encourage your children to speak “as Gaeilge”:
? Speak “as Gaeilge” as often as you can to your child
? Speak to your child about how you value the Irish language and why
you chose a Gaelscoil for your child’s education. Chat about the
values of our Irish identity and culture. Instil in you’re an
appreciation of all things Irish and the fact that Irish is an official
EU language.
? Be able to sing the National Anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann.
? When you are on the school premises or at the gate, always speak as
much Irish as you can. Your child can teach you!! (Books and websites
a-plenty are also available). We have a lovely Publication & CD
for adults called ‘Is féidir liom’ available to borrow
from Kim san oifig or the usborne ‘Irish for beginners’!
If you haven’t the basics to meet and greet, and hold a simple
conversation this is a must.
Smacht & Gaeilge
? If your child brings home a ‘Cárta Bán’
for you to sign please discuss again the importance of speaking ‘as
Gaeilge’, of abiding by the school rules and ethos and of showing
respect for fellow pupils and school staff.
? Bíodh Gaeilge le feiceáil ag do pháistí
áit éigin lasmuigh den scoil! Mar shampla, if you use
a cheque book, have it printed as Gaeilge, or use Gaeilge in the Library
– there will be a big welcome for you, especially from Dónal,
or use the Gaeilge option at cash dispensers! You will agree that these
are not a big deal, but do give your children very positive messages
about your attitude to Gaeilge.
? Remember, that you are their primary educators – we can only
build on your good work. Go raibh míle maith agaibh do bhur n-aird
agus tacaíocht.

As disposing of batteries correctly is so important, we have linked
up with ‘Weee Ireland’ to recycle them. We have a blue box
inside each main door if you have batteries you would like to dispose
of.
Galf do Pháistí
Ryan McCann @ Nenagh Golf Club has asked me to let you know that children
from 6 years up can begin coaching sessions with the YMG programme at
the club ( www.ymg-golf.com). A new programme begins on February 27th
and children need not be members of the golf club or even own their
own clubs. Gach eolas ó: 087-9339338.
Le meas
