Seamus Heaney

Bás laoch Séamus Heaney

Is le brón inár gcroíthe a chualamar go léir mar gheall ar bhás an fhir iontach seo, an file ab fhearr agus ba cháiliúla in Éirinn le linn ár saol.

Ba mhaith linn é a chomóradh sa Halla leis an ráiteas a dúirt sé féin: ‘Scríobh rud ar bith – just write anything!’

In order to remember and commemorate him, we mounted a display of our school community’s writings. Therefore, I thank you for putting your pen to paper, (or your fingers on the buttons), and contributing to our Taispeántas

Beidh a chuid filíochta mar chuid dár n-oireacht luachmhar, agus ba bhreá liom go mbeadh deis agaibh chun taitneamh a bhaint as mar a scríobh Heaney

: ‘I’ve always associated the moment of writing with a moment of lift, of joy, of unexpected reward’.

It’s no small wonder that Séamus Heaney enjoyed the moment of writing, when we read and enjoy the wonderful poetry he wrote. Gabriel Rosenstock has translated many of his poems into Irish, and has extended their beauty by doing so. Remembering him at school yesterday, amongst other activities, we enjoyed

Heaney’s own reading of the poem ‘Digging’ enhanced by a lovely montage of images over the years – www.slate.com.
