POLASAÍ OBAIR BHAILE GAELSCOIL AONACH URMHUMHAN

1. Cén fáth go dtugaimid Obair Bhaile?
- Chun cad atá foghlamtha ag an dalta i rith an lae a threisiú.
- Chun nasc idir na tuismitheoir(í)/caomhóir(í) agus an oide a sholáthar.
- Chun scileanna comhdhírithe an dalta a fhorbairt chomh maith le heitic oibre - chun scileanna a chothú a chabhróidh leis an dalta obair neamhspléach a dhéanamh.
- To reinforce what the child learns during the day.
- To provide a link between teacher and parent/guardian..
- To develop a child’s concentration skills and develop a work ethic.
- To enable pupils to work independently

Tugann obair bhaile caoi chun na hoibre atá déanta ar scoil cheana féin a chleachtadh agus a dhaingniú. Beifear ag súil go ndéanfaidh na daltaí a gcuid obair bhaile chomh maith agus is feidir leo de réir a gcumais indibhídiúil. De ghnáth ullmhaíonn agus míníonn an t-oide an obair bhaile sa rang. Tugtar obair bhaile do na ranganna sínsearacha uaireanta agus tá sé atá i gceist go mbeadh sí mar dhúshlán do chumas na ndaltaí agus sa tslí sin ag soláthar caoíonna i gcomhair neamhspleáchais agus cruthaitheachta. Bheadh tionscnaimh srl. san aicme seo. Homework provides an opportunity to practice and consolidate work already done at school. Children are expected to do their homework to the best of their individual ability - no more, no less. It is normally prepared and explained by the teacher in class. In senior classes, some homework is designed to challenge children’s ability, and provide opportunities for independence and creativity. Project work etc. comes under this category.

2. Cad tá i gceist san Obair Bhaile?
Go hidéalach, beidh cothromaíocht idir léitheoireacht, foghlaim chomh maith le tascanna scríofa teicneolaíochta, ach ní hionann é ó lá go lá. Beidh orthu cuimhneamh go bhfuil an t-am a thugtar do léitheoireacht agus d’fhoghlaim chomh tábhachtach leis an am a chaitheann siad le hobair scríofa ó Rang 1-6 tá Dialann ag na páistí. Scríobhann siad síos cad atá le déanamh acu ón gclár bán nó dubh. Ideally, homework will contain a balance between reading, learning and written tasks but can vary considerably from day to day. It should be noted that homework time devoted to reading and learning is as important as written work. The pupils from Rang 1-6 have a Homework Journal. Here they write down their Homework from the board in class.

- Go rialta beidh léitheoireacht, mála leabhair, litriú, táblaí, obair scríofa, píosaí a chur de ghlanmheabhair, feadóg stáin, líníocht/dathú, eolas/rudaí a bhailiú agus obair a thosaíodh sa rang a chríochniú. Gach Luan, beidh na gnéithe Obhair Bhaile a bhíonn ag na páistí ó Luan-Déardaoin scríofa sa Dialann.
- Uaireanta ceapann daltaí nach obair bhaile cheart an léitheoireacht agus foghlaim de ghlanmheabhair. Glacann tuismitheoir(í)caomhnóir(í) ról an thábhachtach má éisteann siad le léitheoireacht agus le hobair ó bhéal agus sa tslí sin cinntíonn siad go bhfuil an obair déanta go maith. Sa Churaclam Leasaithe tá béim athnuaite curtha ar an luach atá ag baint le hobair ó bhéal.
- Ba cheart nach mbeadh ach na rudaí atá ag teastáil chun an obair bhaile a dhéanamh sa mhála scoile chomh maith le lón agus deoch an pháiste.
- Beidh an Obair Bhaile a bheidh ag an bpáiste gach tráthnóna, ó Luan go Déardaoin, scríofa sa Dialann ar an Luan, leis an obair bhreise scríofa gach lá.
- Homework will regularly contain: reading, mála leabhair spellings, tables, written work, practising tin whistle, (pieces to be learned by heart), drawing/colouring, singing, reciting, collecting information/items and finishing work started in class.
- Children often feel that reading and learning by heart is not real homework. Parent(s)/guardian(s) can play an important role in listening to reading and oral work ensuring this work is well done. In the Revised Curriculum, a renewed emphasis is put on the value of oral work.
- Children should only have what is needed in order to do homework as well as their lunch and drinks in their school bag.
- The Homework that is the same and given every day from Monday - Thursday will be written in the pupil's Dialann on a Monday with anything extra written each day.

3. Cé chomh minic is a thugtar Obair Bhaile?
Tugtar obair bhaile ar an Luan, ar an Máirt, ar an gCéadaoin agus ar an Déardaoin ach ní thugtar aon obair bhaile ar an Aoine. Tá roinnt eisceachtaí nuair a thabharfar obair bhaile ag an deireadh seachtaine:

i) Muna bhfuil an obair bhaile críochnaithe nó gur deineadh faillí uirthi i rith na seachtaine.
ii) Dá mba rud é go raibh an dalta as láthair agus nach raibh an obair déanta dá bharr sin.
iii) Sna hardranganna is féidir obair thionscadail a dhéanamh ag an deireadh seachtaine.
D’fhéadfaí dalta a choimeád istigh i rith am lóin chun obair a athdhéanamh muna bhfuil an obair críochnaithe nó muna bhfuil sé déanta go maith. Uaireanta ag discréid an mhúinteora ranga nó an Phríomhoide ní bhíonn obair bhaile ag na daltaí. Déantar é seo mar phléisiúr dóibh nó mar chúiteamh ar ócáid speisialta. Homework is given on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays but not on Fridays. There are some exceptions when weekend homework will be given:
• If homework has not been completed or has been neglected during the week
• If a child has been absent and has missed out on work as a result
• In senior classes some project work may be assigned at weekends.
Incomplete or badly presented homework may cause a child to remain inside during am lóin to re-do this work
Sometimes at the discretion of the múinteoir ranga or príomhoide, children are given written homework off as a treat or as an acknowledgement of some special occasion.

4. Treoirlínte faoi am a chaithtear ar Obair Bhaile
Tógfaidh sé tréimhsí difriúla ó dhaltaí difriúla chun obair a chríochniú. Athróidh an t-am a chaithfear ar obair bhaile ó lá go lá agus ó thosach go deireadh na scoilbhliana freisin. Tá sé tábhachtach cuimhneamh go bhfuil caighdeán na hoibre níos tábhachtaí ná méid na hoibre. Seo a leanas treoirlínte ginearálta faoi mheán an ama ba cheart a chaitheamh ag obair bhaile:-
Different children will complete the homework in different lengths of time. Time spent will vary from day to day and also from the beginning to the end of the school year. It is important to remember that it is the quality and not the quantity of homework that matters. The following are general guidelines as to the average amount of time homework should take:

Naíonáin Shóisireacha: 10 nóiméad
Naíonáin Shínseareacha: 10 – 20 nóiméad
Rang a 1 20 – 30 nóiméad
Rang a 2 20 – 30 nóiméad
Rang a 3 30 – 40 nóiméad
Rang a 4 45 nóiméad
Rang a 5 50 nóiméad
Rang a 6 timpeall is 60 nóiméad

I mí Dheireadh Fomhair iarraimid ar thuismitheoirí an méid ama atá á chaitheamh ar obair bhaile a scríobh síos dúinn chun cabhrú linn faoin méid is ceart dúinn a thabhairt. Tuigimid nach ach treoir é an méid thuas mar beidh gach páiste difriúil óna chéile ó thaobh luas de. Ba cheart do thuismitheoir(í)/chaomhnóir(í) nóta a scríobh má tá go leor ama caite ag an bpáiste dar leis na tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í). During October, we ask you to write down the amount of time spent on Obair Bhaile to inform us as to the average length of time children are spending, and hence, on the amount we should give. We appreciate that the above guide times are approximate and will vary from child to child as some work much faster than others. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are welcome to write a note to the class teacher if they feel their child has spent enough time on Obair Bhaile even if it hasn't been completed.

5. Cé mhéid Cabhair ar cheart do thuismitheoirí/chaomhnóirí a Thabairt don Dalta?

Molaimid go ndéanann tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í) iarracht cabhair a thabhairt leis an obair bhaile dá ndaltaí trí:
- Áit chuí agus am a sholáthar dóibh chun obair bhaile a dhéanamh.
- Cosc a chur le mearú, mar an teilifís nó daltaí eile.
- Cabhair a thabhairt do dhalta chun deacracht a shárú trí mhíniú breise nó samplaí a thabhairt ach gan an obair bhaile a dhéanamh dó/di. Má leanann an deacracht ar aghaidh ba cheart do thuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í) nóta a scríobh ag míniú na faidbhe don oide.
- Cinnte a dhéanamh de go bhfuil an obair scríofa déanta go néata agus i gceart.
- Obair ó bhéal agus scríofa a sheiceáil chomh maith le héisteacht leis an bhfeadóg stáin.
We recommend that parent(s)/guardian(s) try to help their children with homework by:
- Providing them with a suitable place and time to do their homework
- Preventing interruptions or distractions, like TV or other children playing or talking nearby
- Helping the child to overcome a difficulty with further explanation or examples, but not by actually doing the homework for the child. If a difficulty persists then parent(s)/guardian(s) should write a note to the teacher explaining the problem
- Ensuring that all written work is neat & presented correctly
- Checking all oral & written work as well as listening to reading and feadóg stáin.

Má dhéanann an dalta an obair bhaile le feidhlí leanaí molaimid go seiceálfadh na tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í)an Dialann Obair Bhaile agus go síneoidis í. Ó Rang a 5 ar aghaidh, ar a luaithe, tá sé tábhachtach go bhforbródh na daltaí an cumas chun obair bhaile neamhspleách a dhéanamh ina gcuid obair bhaile scríofa agus go seiceálann na tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í) í go mion ina dhiaidh sin. Má tá tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í) ag súil le sárobair, caithfidh siad suim a thaispeáint agus moladh a thabhairt dá ndaltaí. Ansin feidhmeoidh na daltaí obair ar ardchaighdeán. Cabhraíonn sé seo go mór don dalta ag bogadh ar aghaidh don mhéanscoil. We would strongly recommend that in the case of children doing homework with a child-minder, that parent(s)/guardian(s) would still check it and sign the Dialann. From Rang a 5 on, at the earliest, it is important that children begin to develop an ability to do their written homework independently. However, there is still a need for full parental supervision checking that each element is completed to a high standard. If parent(s)/guardian(s) have high expectations of children's work, show interest and praise, then, from a young age, children will perform to a high standard. This pays great dividends when children move on to Secondary School.

6. Conas a fhairfidh Tuismitheoirí/Caomhnóirí an Obair Bhaile? Impímid go ndéanfaidís a leanas:-
i) Dialann an dalta a sheiceáil agus a shiniú gach tráthnóna nuair atá an obair bhaile seiceáilte acu
ii) Obair neamhspleach, dírithe a spreagadh
iii) Muna bhfuil sé sásúil ba cheart don pháiste é a athdhéanamh
iv) Ciallaíonn an síniú go bhfuil tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í) sásta leis an gcaighdeán obair bhaile,
agus go bhfuil sí seicáilte.
It is vital that parent(s)/guardian(s):-
i) Check and sign the child’s Homework Journal every evening having checked the homework
ii) Encourage independent, focused work
iii) Ensure that if written work isn't up to a satisfactory standard, it is redone.
iv) Sign their child's Dialann Obair Bhaile having checked each item, thereby indicating that the are
satisfied with the standard.
Straitéis chun litriú a fhoghlaim agus a sheiceáil Learning & checking strategy for Spellings
Féach ar an bhfocal Look at the word
Abair agus litrigh an focal Say & Spell the word
Clúdaigh an focal Cover the word
Scríobh an focal Write the word
Seiceáil an focal Check the word
Cuirimid teannadh leis an tábhacht a bhaineann le scríobh na litriú nuair atá siad á sheiceáil mar, is é seo conas a úsáidfear siad iad. We emphasise the importance of writing the spellings when you are checking them as this is how the children will use them.
Táblaí: Foghlaimíonn na daltaí na táblaí as Gaeilge agus ba cheart tacaíocht a thabhairt sa bhaile chun go mbeidh luas agus cruinneas ag na páistí. Children learn their tables as Gaeilge and this should be supported at home. The ultimate aim is for the children to have speed and accuracy 'as gaeilge'.

7. Cé chomh minic is a fhaireann na Múinteoir an obair bhaile?
• Go hidéalach ba cheart do hOidí an obair bhaile a sheiceáil gach lá, ach ní féidir i gcónaí.
• Is féidir le daltaí míreanna den obhair bhaile (agus obair ranga) a sheiceáil iad féin faoi threoir an Oide.
• Is féidir leis an bhféinmheasúnú seo a bheith ina chuid úsáideach den phroiséas foghlama do dhaltaí m.sh. ag tástáil litrithe agus iad ag úsáid an straitéis litrithe.
• Teachers check homework on a regular basis.
• Some items of homework may be checked by children themselves under direction of the teacher. This self and peer assessment can be a useful part of the learning process for children.

8. Cathain is ceart do Thuismitheoirí/Chaomhnóirí teagmháil scríofa a dhéanamh leis an Múinteoir Ranga?
• Nuair nach féidir leis an bpáiste obair bhaile a dhéanamh de bharr cúrsaí teaghlaigh
• Nuair nach féidir leis an bpáiste gné éigin den obair bhaile a dhéanamh tar éis iarracht a dhéanamh í a chríochnú le cabhair an tuismitheora.
• When your child cannot do homework due to family circumstances
• When your child cannot do homework because she/he cannot understand some aspect having made an effort to complete the task with your help

9. Cathain is Ceart Obair Bhaile a dhéanamh?
Go hidéalach ba cheart briseadh gairid a bheith ag daltaí i ndiaidh scoile. Ba cheart an obair bhaile a dhéanamh ansin ag am áirithe. Molaimid nach mbeadh gleásanna cumaisáide ar siúl fad agus atá páiste ag déanamh obair bhaile riamh. Homework should be done at a regular time each day to develop a sense of routine, order & discipline. Ideally, children should have a short break after school. Homework should then be done while the child is still fresh.

10. Obair Bhaile nach bhfuil déanta
Muna bhfuil Obair Bhaile an pháiste déanta, agus nach bhfuil nóta scríofa ón tuismitheoir/caomhnóir don mhúinteoir ranga, gheobhaidh sé/sí ‘Spota Dearg’ go príobháideach ón mhúinteoir. Muna bhfuil sé déanta agus muna bhfuil sé scríofa síos nó má tá sé faghta sa bhaile gheobhaidh an dalta leath spota. Má fhaigheann dalta 5 spota thar 4 sheachtain, gheobhaidh sé/sí litir ón mhúinteoir ranga agus ón bpríomhoide ag cur é seo in iúl agus ag lorg níos mó tacaíochta. Ba cheart go mbeidh na litreacha sínithe ag tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í), agus curtha ar ais ar scoil chun go rachaidh siad isteach i gcomhad an pháiste. Muna réitíonn sé seo an fhadhb, glaotar ar na tuismitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í) chun bualadh leis an múinteoir. Má leanann sé seo ar aghaidh glaotar ar na tuismitheoir(í)/caomhóir(í) chun bualadh leis an múinteoir ranga & leis an bpríomhoide. Muna dtagann feabhas fós, cuireann an príomhoide litir do na tuistmitheoir(í)/caomhnóir(í) chun go nglacfaidh siad leis an bhfreagracht. Tá fáilte roimh thuismitheoirí aon fhadhb maidir le hobair bhaile a phlé leis an múinteoir, le coinne déanta tríd an rúnaí. If a pupil’s homework or a part thereof is not done, and you haven’t written a nóta to your child’s múinteoir ranga, he/she will receive a ‘Spota Dearg’. If it isn't done and not written down, or if it is left at home, a pupil will receive a half 'Spota'. If a pupil gets 5 spota in a four week period he/she will get a letter from your child’s múinteoir ranga and príomhoide informing you and looking for your increased support. These letters should be signed by parent(s)/guardian(s), and returned to school, where they will be kept on the child’s file. If this doesn’t rectify the matter, a meeting will be called with parent(s)/guardian(s) & múinteoir ranga. Failing this, parent(s)/guardian(s) will be asked to meet the príomhoide and múinteoir ranga. If the situation remains unsatisfactory, the príomhoide and múinteoir will send another letter to parent(s)/guardian(s) as it is imperative that support the teachers in the education of the child, for the good of the child. If you have anything you would like to discuss regarding your child's homework, please arrange a meeting with your child's múinteoir ranga.

11. Léitheoireacht Siamsúil - Mála Leabhar
Tógann gach dalta tríd an scoil leabhar siamsúil abhaile go laethiúl sa Mhála Leabhar. Ní féidir linn go leor béime a chur ar na buntáistí a gheobhaidh an dalta as a bheith ag léamh na leabhar seo agus leabhair eile gach uile lá agus an deireadh seachtaine san áireamh. Is mór ár meas ar thacaíocht iomlán na dtuismitheoirí/gcaomhnóirí inár n-iarrachtaí agus beidh meas ag na daltaí air freisin. Molaimid go láidir turas rialta go dtí an leabharlann freisin. Every child throughout the school brings a recreational reading book home daily in the 'Mála Leabhar'. We cannot put sufficient emphasis on the benefits a child will get from reading these books, and others, every single day, weekends included. We appreciate parents/guardians total support, in our endeavours, and children will too. We also strongly recommend regular visits to the library.

12. Moladh d'ár dTuismitheoirí/Caomhnóirí
Moltar gach tacaíocht agus comhoibriú leis an Obair Bhaile. Glacaimid le moltaí dár bpolasaí, agus cuirfimid san áireamh iad sa phlé ag ár n-athbhreithniú. All support and co-operation with regard to your children’s Obair Bhaile is greatly appreciated. If you have any recommendations for this policy, we welcome them, and they will be considered at our next review. Go raibh maith agaibh!
